Fish Hoek Beach
The past few weeks in Cape Town have seen magnificent weather, unfortunately for me I’ve had too many things planned, none of which involved the beach which has resulted in me staring longingly out of my car window or from within a bunch of runners while competing in a race, at the sea just wishing I was out there swimming or paddling around on my surfboard.
This weekend I was adamant that I would get to the beach not only to lie basking in the sun but to actually have a swim and a little frolic in the waves. Sunday brought by the opportunity and my friend Amanda the company and since we both wanted to be guaranteed some quality time in the water we set off for Fish Hoek beach, not my first choice in terms of beach going but an almost sure thing if we wanted to immerse our bodies in the Atlantic ocean.
After securing our spot on the beach we both made our way to the ocean which was dead calm and inviting, a usual thing for Fish Hoek. We felt perfectly at ease leaving our belongings unattended (although general practice is to ask someone close by to keep an eye on them) and spent a glorious time in the water enjoying the perfect day.
Fish Hoek beach is the ideal venue for families and those, like us, whose sole intention is to have a dip. The beach is long and clean with beautiful soft white sand, there are lifeguards on duty all day and a little restaurant right on the beach provides the best fries I have ever tasted – I think it might have something to do with eating fries on the beach although I can’t be sure...
If you are in the mood for a swim and don’t fancy the freezing waters of Clifton or Camps Bay or competing with surfers for the waves in Muizenberg, head out to Fish Hoek beach and enjoy the warmer waters and scenery surrounding the bay.
