November is my birthday month and in keeping with the theme I usually have, which is one of skill acquisition - I decided to test my theory about Lawn Bowling. Inviting quite a sizable crowd (not expecting that many people to be interested in learning a new skill, especially one that has the tag of being for ‘older’ people), I was quite surprise when almost everyone said that they would be joining in the fun…

The Glen Bowling Club was where I’d organized to play – Josh at the club was very happy when I told him that there would be a group of younger people interested in playing, and kindly arranged to have a few people teaching us the intricacies of the game.

I can honestly say lawn bowls is a fantastic game – fun and technical but not out of reach for those who aren’t naturally sporty. Congregating in the clubhouse afterwards we regaled each other with stories of our skills and near misses over gin and tonics, with little sandwiches kindly provided by the club.

I had such a great morning bowling in the sunshine, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean enjoying a fun day with friends – ok it helps that it seems I have a hidden talent for lawn bowls – I’d strongly recommend you give this game a go, making sure to dress the part when you do…
