Day Tripping
Last weekend the weather was glorious here in Cape Town so we decided to make the most of it. Heading out of town towards the Strand, we popped over the top of Sir Lowry’s pass and made our way to the little town of Greyton which is at the foot of the Riviersonderend mountain range.
This quaint little village is made up of a short high street, but for such a small town they have a lovely array of galleries, restaurants, quaint tea rooms and antique stores. To drive around the town and admire the little cottages draped in climbing roses and thatch, you wouldn’t be chastised for thinking that you were wending your way through Hobbiton and at the next pedestrian crossing a small person with hairy feet and pointed ears would be waiting to cross…
Grab some lunch at one of the many establishments in town after you have poked around the Saturday morning market, followed with some decadent chocolate from the hand made chocolate shop and carry on with your browsing until you are ready to make your way home.
Just an hour and a half from Cape Town, Greyton is a little gem of a village, tucked away off the N2. Make sure you pop into the settlement of Genadendal which is right next door, said to be the oldest Missionary station in South Africa and is just too beautiful for words…
