Kirstenbosch Market

On the last Sunday of every month, Kirstenbosch Market occupies the field opposite the Botanical Gardens in Newlands. Being a lovely day today I thought a stroll around the market in the sun would set the tone (at marvellous) for the rest of my day.

Ample parking all along Rhodes Drive leading up to the market meant I didn’t have to walk for miles or battle to find an open space, I was quite pleased to park right outside the entrance although once the Kirstenbosch concerts start up again in November, convenient parking will be hard to come by.

Set up under the leafy oak trees, with horses meandering around the stalls with children clinging to their backs, lots of open space (shaded and in the sun) and thick grass that people seem quite comfortable to lounge on with whatever delicious thing they have bought to munch on, is what you can expect from this market.

All sorts of home crafts, cheeses, jewellery, clothing and other very yum looking things made up the market although feeling in need to show some love to the many dogs around , I suspect I might have spent more time entertaining various canine species than browsing around the stalls...

I’d recommend spending the morning at the Kirstenbosch Market even if it is just for the relaxed atmosphere in one of the most beautiful settings in Cape Town.
