To Bowl or not to Bowl??
Last weekend, making the most of the sunshine (at last) a friend and I took a leisurely walk from the Sea Point pools to Camps Bay and back – for some ice cream.
Now this post is NOT about ice cream but I do have to mention that the best ice cream in Cape Town is found at Sinful (this hidden gem deserves a post all of it's own)! Yes, I am not ashamed to say that I will drive from town to Camps Bay to enjoy a scoop of "addictions" and a scoop of "lemon sorbet" while sitting on the beach watching the sun go down – now let’s get back to what today’s post is really about...
Just past the entrances to all the Clifton beaches, we passed a bowling club and my friend Amanda (who is originally from Australia) wanted to know if bowling was popular with young people in South Africa. Now when I think of Bowls I can’t help but imagine elderly people, who perhaps can’t play tennis like they used to or swing a golf club quite like they did 5 years ago, in their whites meeting at the bowling club once a week for a bit of a natter and a game - I had never actually considered young people sending the black ball down the green to see who can get closest to the “jack”.
According Amanda having a day at the Bowling Green for young people in Oz it is extremely popular, and the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea of getting kitted out and heading to the bowling club for a gin and tonic and a round of bowls with a bunch of friends.
I would like to know from you out there if you share my thoughts, or if you think it should be left to the more mature? Let me know...
