Noordhoek Beach

Noordhoek beach is an expansive stretch of beautiful white sand and dark blue (very cold) ocean on the Atlantic Seaboard.

To be honest the beach has never really appealed to me because it can get pretty windswept, the idea of walking for miles while being sandblasted by nature means that I had never actually ventured down to the beach, I’ve only ever admired it from my vantage point on Chapman’s Peak.

So last week I decided to go and check out Noordhoek beach, regardless of how windy it was...

I was pleasantly surprised, following the boardwalk from the car park, you reach the beach on the far right corner. Having spotted some guys heading down with their surfboards, I thought it might be a good idea to see if this could be a potential surf spot for me, that is once I have graduated from the advanced beginner’s class at Muizenberg beach...

Not to bore anyone with getting too technical on the surf side of things, Noordhoek beach turned out to be quite fun. Dogs bounding around, surfer boys (and girls) looked very comfortable in the waves and although there was a fair amount of wind – it still turned out to be extremely enjoyable.

Noordhoek beach is also one of the few beaches you can horse ride on, so as long as you choose a relatively windless day, I would suggest an outing to Noordhoek beach which is also just a few minutes drive from “The Long Beach” in Kommetjie.
