This weekend I felt like being outside and decided to explore the Porter Estate Market in Tokai, just minutes from “The Constantia”. This organic fruit and vegetable market is open every Saturday from 9am to 1pm and is a hidden gem, offering good quality fresh produce and delicious treats.

Fueled by traditional farmers' coffee (Fred this coffee deserves a mention – it gets made with condensed milk, a decadence I could get used to) I hit the stalls indulging in samples of chocolate brownie, carrot cake and raw honey while the array of cheeses, preserves, breads and of course beautiful fruits and vegetables had my mind working overtime, thinking of all the meals I could throw together without having to put a foot in a super market.

Hula-hoop lessons and horse rides were keeping children occupied and the multitude of people walking their dogs had me questioning my choice of city living over a Cape Town retreat in the suburbs, complete with a garden for the pets and the veggies…
