Uncovering the best coffee in Cape Town

I love coffee. To be more specific, I love great coffee.

I once heard an explanation on Paris that the reason it is such a great city is because you don’t get a bad cup of coffee. I’m not sure whether that is true, but one thing for sure is that you cannot say that the same for Cape Town. There are many, er, ‘average’ cups of coffee in the Mother City.

My role here on Have The Last Word is to act as a filter… if you excuse the expression.

Over the next few months, I will sift through all the cheap hotel brews, the nasty cafeteria roasts and all the insulting ‘bottomless’ offers that have invaded our beloved city. I will uncover the little hideaways, the hidden gems resting comfortably within our mountain folds and green valleys.

Every two weeks, I will lead you along an aromatic path to the doors of Cape Town’s most excellent infusions.

I’m no expert. I have no master’s degree in the art of the barista. I do, however, know good from bad, and I’ve been sharing my musings for two years now. So, pull up a sack of African bean and join me for a cup of the finest.

See you soon…
