A Day at the Races!

Today I set out for the Killarney Race Track. To be honest my idea of fun doesn’t usually include sitting on the side of a race track, watching cars (ok so they might not be just normal cars) go round and round, having to compete volume wise while trying to vent my frustrations to my friends about my awful week.

But, I must concede that it turned out to be quite fun AND the great racing legend Sarel Van Der Merwe graced us with his presence making the experience that much more authentic (and he bought us a round of drinks)...

So perhaps I’m not being totally upfront with you here – Sarel (yes we are on first name basis) does happen to be the father of one of my best friends so it wasn’t just co-incidence that he was there. Plus we knew one of the guys racing so we didn’t just go to watch random races; we went to support a friend.

R40 gets you into Killarney for the day and with back to back races of cars and motorbikes, you are in for a treat if this is what you are interested in. Anyone is allowed in the pit area where you can gaze at the plethora of different cars and engines and whatever else you would like to gaze at – again, if cars are what you are interested in – which must be a pretty popular thing because it was quite busy. I got a kick out of people watching, so as it turns out there is something for everyone, even if you can’t tell a Lamborghini from an Anglia...
