Muizenberg Village Festival

Muizenberg, a seaside town 25 minutes drive from Cape Town city centre and a stone’s throw from The St James, is having a village festival on Sunday, December 12th from 10am to 6pm on Palmer Street in Muizenberg Village.

Themed as “Sea the Village”, Muizenberg would like to focus on Creativity, Eco-Awareness and Community with the aim of growing a more creatively sustainable community in this area. Fantastic food stalls will be set up from which you can buy all manner of home cooked, traditionally South African food, painting demonstrations, workshops and activities for the children will keep you busy the whole day. If you fancy a dance, there will be live music by top artists like Dave Ferguson, Joshua Grierson and Fletcher throughout the day.

Muizenberg has a rather rich history dating back to 1742 when the Dutch East India Company built a toll-house along the road to levy a tax on farmers who would pass on their way to Simonstown harbor to sell their goods to the ships laying at anchor. This is said to be one of the oldest buildings in South Africa, and has since been a police station, stables, brothel, hotel and private house. Now known as Het Posthuys or Post House it is cared for by the Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society and is open to the public.

Muizenberg is also well known for ‘Surfers Corner’ said to be where surfing was born in South Africa, and boasts a beach of some 20km long, all the way to the Strand. Currently Muizenberg is undergoing an upliftment program to help empower the local community and alleviate crime and poverty in the once, wealthy seaside resort area.

Make sure you get down to the Muizenberg festival to take part in the fun and activities on offer.
