Chocolate decadence

During the holidays I visited the Lindt studio and was absolutely blown away – of course this could have been because of my absolute love of chocolate, dark chocolate in fact and especially Lindt since it is my favourite.

The festive season might be over, but the party in Cape Town is just beginning to sizzle! The mother city’s Summer Series started on the 12th of December 2011 and is currently running until the 13th of January 2012.

On December 16th, the Good Hope Gardens Nursery - an indigenous nursery near Cape Point - will be hosting the annual Fynbos and Food Fair.  As with most events of this nature in the Cape you can expect excellent local farming produce, entertainment,  delicious home made food and on this occasion, discounted indigenous plants.

Theatres in the Cape

One of my favourite things to do is go to the theatre - I feel very spoiled here in Cape Town because we have so many and they manage to host a number of shows throughout the year, ranging from huge professional theatre productions like Mama Mia to small little independent shows.

A little more energetic...

For those of you who don't mind working up a bit of a sweat in order to see something beautiful then I would suggest doing a Full-moon hike to the top of Klapmutskop which is on the Delvera farm near Stellenbosch and Paarl.  This trail is just under 10km in total and takes you through a Renosterveld Conservancy and a Yellowood Forrest to the top of a hill in order to watch the sun set over Table Mountain.

Cape Town Big 6

If you are visiting Cape Town, there are so many wonderful things to do and see, you could spend a week here and still not get to experience everything this incredible area has to offer.  Many visitors to the Cape don't have enough time here to see everything,  or they aren't sure exactly where they need to start which is why the Cape Town Big 6 was introduced.  This is a collaboration between the top 6 attractions in Cape Town in order to make it as easy as possible to get to see the main things in and around Cape Town.

Hidden Gems on Table Mountain

If you are in Cape Town visiting, I have no doubt in my mind that you have seen Table Mountain.  For us Capetonians, it is our landmark and the feature that we refer to when driving, looking for inspiration or just for something beautiful.  There are many ways to admire Table Mountain, you can basically drive around it to get all the different perspectives from the flat-topped view we get in the city to the 12 Apostles around the Atlantic Seaboard side, not to mention the fairy-tale, mist covered hidden valleys from Kirstenbosch and Constantia Neck.

Rugby Season

testpic

There are a few things South Africans are passionate about, of course beer wine and our incredible beaches all form part of that list, but another passion is rugby and if you know anything about the sport, you will be familiar with the fact that at the moment the 2011 Rugby World Cup is being held in New Zealand.

Season of Sauvignon

testpic

It's that time of year again, when flowers are blooming and trees are in blossom - which of course includes vines, grape vines to be more specific.  This time of year also heralds the promise of long lazy days in the sun, with a fresh, chilled glass of wine and a picnic basket packed to brimming!  If this all sounds rather appealing to you, then I'd suggest you head to Nitida Wine Farm in Durbanville on Saturday and Sunday, October 1st and 2nd for the Season of Sauvignon weekend.

Hidden Human Gems

On September 22nd, the Natural History Club in Cape Town will be hosting a talk by 5 South Africans who were the first people in the world to successfully swim around Cape Horn, the southern-most tip of South America.  Battling near freezing waters and incredible swell, not to mention currents which were hell bent on driving them into the rocky shoreline, these men, took to the water and swam 3km in what is known as the 'sailors graveyard'.
