During the holidays I visited the Lindt studio and was absolutely blown away – of course this could have been because of my absolute love of chocolate, dark chocolate in fact and especially Lindt since it is my favourite.
The festive season might be over, but the party in Cape Town is just beginning to sizzle! The mother city’s Summer Series started on the 12th of December 2011 and is currently running until the 13th of January 2012.
The true essence of what makes Tina Turner the great artist that she is has been expertly captured and flawlessly portrayed by the multi-talented star Felicity Kiran, in a remarkable tribute to the iconic “Queen of rock.”
If you are partial to a bit of horse racing then you are in for a treat, Cape Town is celebrating the running of the 151st Queen's Plate race at Kenilworth Race Course on Saturday, 7th of January 2012.
If you either collect antiques or you just enjoy looking at them then you may be interested in going to the Alphen Antiques and Collectibles Market. I for one adore old furniture and so markets like these really quite a treat for me. On December 16th, the Good Hope Gardens Nursery - an indigenous nursery near Cape Point - will be hosting the annual Fynbos and Food Fair. As with most events of this nature in the Cape you can expect excellent local farming produce, entertainment, delicious home made food and on this occasion, discounted indigenous plants.
One of my favourite things to do is go to the theatre - I feel very spoiled here in Cape Town because we have so many and they manage to host a number of shows throughout the year, ranging from huge professional theatre productions like Mama Mia to small little independent shows.
For those of you who don't mind working up a bit of a sweat in order to see something beautiful then I would suggest doing a Full-moon hike to the top of Klapmutskop which is on the Delvera farm near Stellenbosch and Paarl. This trail is just under 10km in total and takes you through a Renosterveld Conservancy and a Yellowood Forrest to the top of a hill in order to watch the sun set over Table Mountain.
The thought of trawling the mall for Christmas gifts always elicits feelings of dread for me - firstly because I hate shopping and secondly because I hate being inside when I know it is a beautiful day out - however, there seems to be a solution to that problem, The Fab Ideas Christmas Gift Fair!
If you are visiting Cape Town, there are so many wonderful things to do and see, you could spend a week here and still not get to experience everything this incredible area has to offer. Many visitors to the Cape don't have enough time here to see everything, or they aren't sure exactly where they need to start which is why the Cape Town Big 6 was introduced. This is a collaboration between the top 6 attractions in Cape Town in order to make it as easy as possible to get to see the main things in and around Cape Town.
If you enjoy wine and Jazz then you are in luck, on November 26th Nederburg will be hosting a classical music and jazz event at the Estate in Paarl. This promises to be an afternoon filled with sun, family fun and of course music and wine.
