The Saxon Boutique Hotel

 Saxon Suite

Voted the World’s Leading Boutique Hotel for the last six consecutive years, The Saxon is undeniably one of those 100 places and things you have to do and see before you die. Last week I had the privilege of having this experience and let me tell you it was one that I will certainly never forget.

Set in the exclusive and tranquil suburb of Sandton in Johannesburg, with its tree lined streets, The Saxon oozes African elegance and sophistication. This sublime haven behind grand and secure gates is a true and rare find. A hidden gem in the hectic and vibrant city life of one of the biggest cities in South Africa.

Once behind these gates, in the magnificent and plush gardens, you immediately begin to relax and unwind. Being whisked away to your private suite is a luxury as the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Once inside your room, the reality of sanctuary eventually kicks in and after having been shown around your room, the only thing you can think about it running a hot and foamy bath and simply slipping into it as fast as possible. Every little detail has been thought of right down to your complimentary champagne in your room every night, the fresh fruit and snacks to the very posh amenities, and my personal best has to be your own private butler – what a treat. Your butler is available for anything that you may need and nothing is a problem to get or sort out for you.

After a grilling day of meetings and fighting traffic due to power outages, this for me was the most perfect ending to my day. Steve, my butler, made me feel completely at home and made sure that I was settled in my room and comfortable with everything. First on my list of things to do that night was a long hot bath in the enormous tub behind my bed. Once toasty warm and relaxed, the next thing on my hit list was room service. A quick phone call to Steve and half an hour later, I was enjoying one of the best burgers I have ever had – The Saxon Burger can be highly recommended. All this indulgence was followed by a warm mug of Milo in my super luxurious four poster bed. My sleep that night was most peaceful and upon awakening I felt I was able to tackle the frantic day ahead of me.

I was most sorry to leave The Saxon so early in the morning but rest assured I will definitely be back to experience the ultimate in true luxury, hospitality and style.
